Stretching between Carmel-by-the-Sea and Hearst Castle, the roughly 90-mile-long stretch of rugged coastline known as Big Sur is nothing short of magical. With sweeping ocean views at every turn, it’s no wonder Highway 1 is one of the most iconic roads in America. Big Sur is located an approximately 2.5 hr drive south from San Francisco and an approximately 6 hr drive north from Los Angeles. We’ve driven it from both directions and enjoyed everything from camping and hiking to surfing and elephant seal viewing. If you’re looking for an epic place to take a road trip, look no further.

This November we had the pleasure of taking a weekend trip to Yosemite National Park. As one of our favorite places to backpack, we’ve visited a number of times, but this was our first time visiting in the fall and we were totally blown away. Here are my top reasons why you too should plan a visit to Yosemite in the fall.

Being able to access the internet on a computer is something that’s important to a lot of people living in vans and other unconventional types of homes. While most of us could do with less connectivity, it’s necessary for some people for things like work and school (and let’s be honest - Netflix for some of us), but can be a hassle having to visit a coffee shop or library every time you need or want to get online on your computer. After trying some different ways of accessing internet in our van, we eventually settled on the WifiRanger Sky Pro, and it’s been the perfect vanlife internet solution.

Anyone else out there who thinks that finding unique hotels in amazing locations is one of the best aspects of trip planning? We just got back from a trip to Indonesia and our hotel in Uluwatu, The Temple Lodge, really took the cake. In fact, I think it’s my favorite place I’ve ever stayed. Yes, I’ve stayed at places with access to nicer beaches (or right on the beach), a great variety of amenities, and more attentive staff, but the combination of amazing views + incredibly unique rooms won me over.

A how to for switching an unbranded or Dodge grill for a Mercedes grill on your Sprinter van. Hint: all Sprinters have the cutout on the hood for the Mercedes symbol (hidden behind whatever non-Mercedes grill is on it) so it’s not as hard as it may seem.

On the way down on our Alaska motorbike trip, we stopped at Liard River Hot Springs, the second largest hot spring in Canada. About a year prior, I’d seen a photograph of Liard River Hot Springs and told Justin that someday I was going to go there. My wish came true much quicker than I expected! It’s every bit as wonderful as it looks in photos and we’d highly recommend a visit if you get the chance. That said, here’s a quick guide to Liard River Hot Springs.

This Monday Justin and his dad launched off on a 7,000+ motorbike trip from California/Washington up to the Arctic Circle in Alaska and back again. This trip has been a long time in the making. Justin and his dad love to ride and have been planning on doing an epic motorbike trip together for years. When they first started talking about it his parents were living in Africa and so they were going to ride Cape Town to Cairo. When they moved back to the US a few years ago, Justin and his dad decided to ride to Alaska instead due to logistics.

This February Justin and I took a short trip to Spain and Portugal after scoring an absolute steal on tickets from a travel site we follow. I spent a lot of time researching where we should stay in Lisbon and finally booked at Rossio Prime Suites where we ended up having an exceptional stay. As such, I wanted to write a review for those of you who are like me and have a hard time picking lodging. Sometimes reading a review that's not from, say, TripAdvisor is what you need to make a final decision.
